The shimmer reverb: a modulated reverb tank with a pitch shifter inside its regeneration loop, so every pass round the tank is transposed again - one octave, then two, then three, fading into the damping. The tail does not just ring, it climbs: the note flowers upward out of itself. Turn Shift negative and it sinks instead, a cathedral dissolving into the floor.
The heart of it
Shimmer is the balance between the two halves of the loop: the plain half sustains the body of the reverb, the shifted half stacks octaves on top. At zero this is a fine ordinary reverb; at full there is no body left, only climb. Feedback sets how long the whole garden rings.
Parameters
| Mix | dry against wet. The wet path is level-matched, so sweeping this compares rooms rather than volumes. |
| Shift | how far the shifter transposes each pass, in semitones. 12 is the classic heavenly octave; 7 gives fifths that stack into wide chords; -12 sinks. |
| Shimmer | how much of the shifted signal is fed back round, against the unshifted tail. |
| Feedback | how much of the tank returns to its own input. This is the tail length. |
| Size | the room's dimensions, from a small bright room to a cathedral. |
| Diffusion | how quickly the first echoes blur together. Low keeps discrete echoes audible inside the tail. |
| LowCut | keeps the mud out of the swell. |
| HighCut | the damping: how much air the tail loses on each pass. |
| ModRate | the speed of the chorusing inside the tank. |
| ModDepth | its depth. A little keeps the tail alive; a lot turns it to water. |
| Mode | the room. Bloom is small and close, Hall natural, Cathedral vast, Cloud somewhere weightless in between. |
| Voice | the shifter arrangement. Single follows Shift, Dual adds a second voice moving the opposite way, Stacked runs both upward, and Off is a plain reverb whatever Shift says. |
| Color | the tilt of the tail. Bright lets the shifted copies keep their sparkle, Dark folds them into velvet, Neutral sits between. |
